When discussing the “obesity epidemic”, it seriously pisses me off when people say “oh, if you just educated them they’d know how to eat better and lose weight.” What the fuck do you think we are, stupid? We’re fucking fat. We know about eating healthy because we hear that shit every fucking time we go to the doctor.
We hear it every god damn time someone like you decides to give us some fucking unsolicited advice about our diet. Shit, I’m willing to bet fucking money we know more about eating healthy than you do.
Here’s the thing people, education doesn’t pay for groceries. Money does. If you look at the lives of a lot of people who are fat, you’ll see that our money has to go elsewhere. Here’s a list of the bills most adults have to pay:
- Car Payment
- Cell phone
- Student loans
- Credit card bills
That’s just monthly. When you add in the fact that some people have a infants or older children to care for, the unexpected expenses go through the roof. Then you have to look at location. Are you near a decent grocery store? What does their produce look like? How much does it cost? Do you have the time to cook?
Then there’s transportation. Do you have a car? If not that means even if you’re near a grocery store you either have to lug all your groceries on and off the bus or you have to walk. For anyone who has never used public transportation before, I dare you to try that shit. Just take one day and make a trip to the grocery store using only public transportation. If you take a cab I consider it cheating. Most poor people cannot afford cabs. That’s a luxury.
What I’m trying to say here is, education is nice but it doesn’t solve a damn thing. Before you open up your privileged ass mouth, walk a mile in our shoes. I bet your ass won’t be blubbering on about “education” after that.
