This is an afro.
There is nothing bad, dirty, disgusting, or unprofessional about my hair. This is not a “bad hair day.” It is simply the way my hair grows naturally out of my head. When white people use the term “afro” in a disparaging way, you’re contributing to the false notion that a black person’s natural hair is somehow unacceptable. That’s not cool and you should really stop it.
So white people, more specifically white women, stop using afro to describe your hair on a “bad hair day.” Your hair may be frizzy, puffy, dry, or tangled but it is not an afro.
