Day 129: A Pro-Tip

Tone and language policing doesn’t make you smarter than the person you’re speaking to.

When I am on my personal blog, my twitter account, and even here, I use AAVE (African-American Vernacular English). Why? Well because I fucking want to. Sometimes I don’t feel like typing out the word “though.” Instead, I might type “doe” or “tho.” I also use “ain’t” and “y’all” all the damn time and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not typing a thesis or dissertation so I don’t have to use Standard American English if I don’t want to.

I may also get angry sometimes. Racism makes me angry. Sexism makes me angry. Biphobia and fatphobia make me angry. The ending to Mass Effect 3 makes me angry. My anger when speaking about these topics doesn’t make me any less knowledgeable about them or diminish my intelligence in any way. When you assume that because I am using AAVE or I’m angry that somehow invalidates my point or diminishes my intelligence, you’re wrong and you look like an asshole. You look like an asshole with a major superiority complex and that shit ain’t cute.

I'm a simple single mom living a complicated life.
