Day 163: Another Halloween costume post.

Yeah, yeah, I know.

The beat to death topic that comes around this time every year. This one will be short, I promise.

This Halloween, remember that people of color are not costumes. We are not mythical beings. We exist. The stereotypes portrayed in those racist costumes do actively harm us. Y’all would cry like hell if we dressed up as a mediocre white man complete with “whiteface”, so don’t dress up as generic Black “thug” number 62 or any other racist stereotype. Don’t steal bits from other cultures for your costume, and please remember that Dia de los Muertos is not “Mexican Halloween”.

Let’s just try not to be complete asswipes this Halloween. Have fun, eat candy, watch some scary movies.

I'm a simple single mom living a complicated life.
